Indications:
LINAJEN 5 mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents including metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.
Pharmacology:
Linagliptin is a selective, reversible inhibitor of the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which increases levels of incretin hormones. These hormones increase insulin secretion and decrease glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner.
Dosage:
The recommended dose is 5 mg once daily, taken orally with or without food. No dose adjustment is required for patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Administration:
Take once daily at the same time each day for best results. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Interaction:
Low potential for drug interactions. Caution is advised when used with strong CYP3A4 or P-gp inducers. Risk of hypoglycemia may increase if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Linagliptin or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include nasopharyngitis, headache, cough, and rarely pancreatitis or allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Caution advised during lactation as safety has not been fully established.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood glucose regularly. Use cautiously in patients with a history of pancreatitis. Not a substitute for insulin in type 1 diabetes.
Therapeutic Class:
Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) Inhibitor
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
