Indications:
KALCORAL-D is indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, osteoporosis, rickets, osteomalacia, and as a supplement in pregnancy, lactation, and elderly patients for maintaining bone health.
Pharmacology:
Calcium Carbonate provides elemental calcium essential for bone formation, nerve function, muscle contraction, and blood coagulation.
Vitamin D₃ (Cholecalciferol) aids in the absorption of calcium from the intestine and regulates calcium and phosphate homeostasis, promoting healthy bone mineralization.
Dosage:
Adults: 1–2 tablets daily, or as directed by a physician.
Dosage may vary based on patient’s age, calcium levels, and specific clinical need.
Administration:
Should be taken orally with food to enhance calcium absorption. Swallow with water, do not chew. Avoid taking with high-fiber meals or iron supplements.
Interaction:
May interact with tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics, bisphosphonates, iron supplements, and diuretics. Avoid taking within 1–2 hours of other interacting medications.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, vitamin D toxicity, severe renal impairment, or known hypersensitivity to any component.
Side Effects:
Generally well tolerated. May cause constipation, flatulence, nausea, or abdominal discomfort. High doses may lead to hypercalcemia or kidney stones.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe when used as recommended during pregnancy and lactation. High doses should be avoided. Always use under medical supervision.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor serum calcium levels in patients receiving high doses or those with kidney disease. Use cautiously in patients with sarcoidosis, renal calculi, or on long-term therapy.
