Pharmacology:
PRECLOT AS 75/75 combines two antiplatelet agents: Aspirin and Clopidogrel.
Aspirin inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), reducing the production of thromboxane A2, a substance that promotes platelet aggregation and blood clot formation.
Clopidogrel works by inhibiting the ADP receptors on platelets, preventing platelet aggregation and reducing the likelihood of clot formation in the arteries.
Together, these medications reduce the risk of clot formation, improving blood flow and preventing strokes, heart attacks, and other thrombotic events.
Dosage:
The usual recommended dose for cardiovascular protection is 75 mg of Aspirin and 75 mg of Clopidogrel once daily.
The dosage may be adjusted by the healthcare provider depending on the patient's condition, and a loading dose may be given initially for some patients.
Administration:
PRECLOT AS 75/75 should be taken orally, once a day, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and should not be chewed, broken, or crushed.
Interaction:
PRECLOT AS 75/75 may interact with other blood-thinning medications (such as warfarin, heparin) and NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen), increasing the risk of bleeding.
It may also interact with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and other medications that affect platelet function. Always inform your doctor about any other medications you're taking to avoid potential interactions.
Contraindications:
PRECLOT AS 75/75 is contraindicated in patients with active bleeding disorders, including peptic ulcer disease, intracranial hemorrhage, and recent surgery.
It should not be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to Aspirin, Clopidogrel, or any of the components of the medication.
Not recommended for patients with severe liver or kidney disease.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include bleeding, bruising, stomach upset, and indigestion.
Serious side effects may include abnormal bleeding (e.g., nosebleeds, blood in urine or stool), severe dizziness, or allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing). Immediate medical attention is required if any of these occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: PRECLOT AS 75/75 should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. It is important to consult a healthcare provider before use.
Lactation: This medication may pass into breast milk. Use with caution during breastfeeding, and consult a doctor if necessary.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of blood clotting parameters (e.g., platelet count) is recommended during treatment.
Discontinue use before any planned surgery to reduce the risk of excessive bleeding.
If any unusual bleeding, bruising, or allergic reactions occur, inform your doctor immediately.
Therapeutic Class:
Antiplatelet Agents
