UBICARE 150 MG is primarily used for:

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Effective in treating infections of the urinary tract, including the bladder and kidneys.

Bacterial Infections: It treats a variety of bacterial infections, especially those affecting the urinary system, respiratory system, and gastrointestinal tract.

Prevention of UTIs: It may also be used to prevent recurrent urinary tract infections, particularly in people who are prone to frequent UTIs.
Pharmacology:
UBICARE 150 MG contains Nitrofurantoin, an antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial growth. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria, particularly those that cause urinary tract infections. Nitrofurantoin interferes with bacterial enzyme systems and inhibits the formation of bacterial proteins, ultimately leading to bacterial death. It is bactericidal at higher concentrations and bacteriostatic at lower concentrations.
Dosage:

For Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): The typical adult dose is 150 mg once or twice daily, depending on the severity and as prescribed by the doctor.

For Prevention of UTIs: The dose may be lower and used on a longer-term basis to prevent recurrent infections.

Administration:

Interaction:

Antacids containing magnesium may reduce the absorption of Nitrofurantoin, so it is advised to separate these medications by at least 2 hours.

Probenecid, sulfonamides, and certain antibiotics may interact with Nitrofurantoin, affecting its efficacy or side effects. Always inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking.
Contraindications:

Severe Renal Impairment: Should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function as it can accumulate in the body, increasing the risk of side effects.

Hypersensitivity: Do not use if you are allergic to Nitrofurantoin or any other component of the medication.

Pregnancy (last trimester): It should not be used during the last trimester of pregnancy, as it may harm the fetus.
