Indications:
BISOPRO is indicated for:
Essential hypertension
Chronic stable angina
Stable chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction
Pharmacology:
Bisoprolol is a highly selective β1-adrenergic receptor blocker. It reduces heart rate and myocardial contractility, lowering blood pressure and oxygen demand. It also decreases renin activity.
Dosage & Administration:
Hypertension/Angina: Start with 2.5–5 mg once daily. Maximum 10 mg/day.
Heart failure: Start with 1.25 mg once daily, gradually increase to target dose (up to 10 mg), based on tolerance.
Take preferably in the morning, with or without food.
Interaction:
May potentiate the effect of other antihypertensives.
Caution with calcium channel blockers (verapamil/diltiazem), insulin, and digitalis.
NSAIDs may reduce its antihypertensive effect.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Bisoprolol
Acute heart failure
Second or third-degree AV block
Severe bradycardia or hypotension
Bronchial asthma or severe COPD
Side Effects:
Common: Fatigue, dizziness, bradycardia
Others: Cold extremities, gastrointestinal discomfort, sleep disturbances
Rare: Depression, hypotension, allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended unless essential
May cause fetal growth retardation or neonatal effects
Use caution in lactation
Precautions & Warnings:
Taper dose gradually when discontinuing
Monitor heart rate, blood pressure regularly
Use caution in diabetes, thyroid disorders, renal or hepatic impairment
Therapeutic Class:
Beta-1 selective (cardioselective) beta-blocker
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
