Indications:
Nebicard is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and mild to moderate chronic heart failure. It may also be used in the management of stable angina.
Pharmacology:
Nebivolol is a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker with vasodilating properties due to its effect on nitric oxide release. It reduces heart rate, myocardial contractility, and peripheral vascular resistance.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted depending on patient response. Can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time daily.
Interaction:
May interact with other antihypertensive agents, digoxin, calcium channel blockers, and certain antidepressants. Caution with drugs affecting heart rate and rhythm.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, heart block, decompensated heart failure, severe liver impairment, or hypersensitivity to Nebivolol.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, fatigue, dizziness, and bradycardia. Rarely, insomnia, depression, or gastrointestinal disturbances may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. Not recommended during breastfeeding due to potential risk to the infant.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with diabetes, thyroid disorders, or bronchospastic conditions. Do not stop the medication abruptly; taper under physician guidance.
