Description
Spusoft 60 ml Syrup is a mucolytic medication manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., containing Erdosteine 175 mg per 5 ml. It is indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic respiratory diseases, including short episodes of chronic bronchitis, by reducing the viscosity of mucus and purulent sputum. Erdosteine acts as a prodrug, metabolizing into active thiol groups that break disulfide bonds in bronchial mucoproteins, thereby thinning mucus and facilitating its clearance. Additionally, it exhibits antioxidant properties and inhibits bacterial adhesion to epithelial cells. The usual adult dosage is 10 ml twice daily for 10 days, while pediatric dosing is based on body weight: 5 ml twice daily for children weighing 15–20 kg, 5 ml three times daily for 20–30 kg, and 10 ml twice daily for those over 30 kg. Common side effects include epigastric pain, headache, cold, taste alterations, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, angioedema, and other skin allergic reactions. Erdosteine should be used with caution in patients with mild liver failure, and its use is contraindicated in those with creatinine clearance less than 25 ml/min or severe liver failure.
