Description
Osteo-D 20000 IU is a soft gelatin capsule manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., containing 20,000 IU of cholecalciferol (vitamin D₃) per capsule. Vitamin D₃ is essential for normal bone growth and development, as well as for maintaining bone density. It is also necessary for the utilization of both calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D acts as a hormone and increases the reabsorption of calcium and phosphorus by the kidneys, promoting increased bone turnover. This formulation is designed to address and prevent vitamin D deficiency, which is particularly important for individuals with limited sun exposure, dietary insufficiencies, or certain medical conditions that impair vitamin D metabolism. Osteo-D 20000 IU is typically administered based on age and deficiency severity: for adults, 40,000 IU once weekly for 7 weeks; for maintenance therapy, 1,400–2,000 IU daily; for prevention, 20,000 IU every 4 weeks; and for osteoporosis, 20,000 IU once a month. For children aged 12–18 years, the treatment regimen is 20,000 IU every 2 weeks for 6 weeks, followed by 20,000 IU every 6 weeks for prevention. The capsule is taken orally and can be consumed with or without food.
