Description
Veracal SR 180 mg is a sustained-release tablet containing 180 mg of verapamil hydrochloride, a calcium channel blocker manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It is primarily used to manage essential hypertension, prevent angina pectoris, and control certain supraventricular arrhythmias. Verapamil works by inhibiting the inward movement of calcium ions into cardiac and smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation, reduced heart rate, and decreased myocardial oxygen demand. This formulation allows for once-daily dosing, enhancing patient compliance. The usual starting dose for hypertension is 180 mg once daily, which may be increased to 240 mg or 360 mg daily based on the patient's response. Common side effects include constipation, dizziness, headache, and bradycardia. It should be used with caution in patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction, hypotension, or AV block. Veracal SR is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to verapamil hydrochloride.
