Indications:
FIXOCARD is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, and to protect renal function in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria.
Pharmacology:
Losartan Potassium is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents vasoconstriction and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by blocking its binding to AT1 receptors, resulting in decreased blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Starting dose is 50 mg once daily.
May be increased to 100 mg once daily based on blood pressure response.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with diuretics, potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, NSAIDs, and other antihypertensive drugs.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Losartan
Pregnancy
Severe hepatic impairment
Bilateral renal artery stenosis
Side Effects:
Dizziness, hypotension, fatigue, hyperkalemia, back pain, nasal congestion. Rare: renal impairment, angioedema.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated in pregnancy. Should not be used during lactation unless prescribed and necessary.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor serum potassium and renal function. Caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, heart failure, or volume depletion.
