Indications:
DUOPRES 5/20 is indicated for the treatment of hypertension in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. It helps reduce the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems associated with high blood pressure.

Pharmacology:

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, causing vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents vasoconstriction by blocking angiotensin II from binding to AT1 receptors, leading to further blood pressure reduction.

Dosage:
The usual dose is one tablet once daily. Dosage may be adjusted based on clinical response. It may be initiated in patients who are not adequately controlled with either component alone.

Administration:
Should be taken orally once daily, with or without food. Take at the same time each day. Continue taking even if you feel well, unless advised otherwise by your physician.

Interaction:
Caution when used with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, lithium, NSAIDs, or other antihypertensives. May enhance hypotensive effect of other medications.

Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Amlodipine, Olmesartan, or any component of the formulation. Also contraindicated in pregnancy, severe hypotension, and bilateral renal artery stenosis.

Side Effects:
Common: Dizziness, swelling of ankles/feet, flushing, headache, fatigue.
Serious: Hypotension, kidney dysfunction, hyperkalemia, angioedema.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy due to risk of fetal injury or death. Caution advised if used during lactation.

Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal function, electrolytes, and blood pressure regularly. Caution in patients with heart failure, renal impairment, or hepatic dysfunction. Avoid abrupt withdrawal.
