Tenaxit 0.5 mg + 10 mg Tablet is a combined anxiolytic and antidepressant medication manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It contains 0.5 mg of Flupentixol, a neuroleptic with anxiolytic and antidepressant properties when administered in small doses, and 10 mg of Melitracen, a tricyclic antidepressant with activating properties. This combination is indicated for the treatment of various conditions including anxiety, depression, apathy, psychogenic depression, depressive neuroses, masked depression, psychosomatic disorders accompanied by anxiety and apathy, menopausal depression, and dysphoria and depression in alcoholics and drug addicts. The typical dosage for adults is two tablets daily, taken in the morning and afternoon; in severe cases, the morning dose may be increased to two tablets. For elderly patients, one tablet in the morning is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of Flupentixol and Melitracen do not appear to influence each other when taken together. Common side effects are rare but may include transient restlessness and insomnia. It is contraindicated in patients recovering from myocardial infarction, those with defects in bundle-branch conduction, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, acute intoxication with alcohol, barbiturates, or opiates, and those who have taken an MAO inhibitor within two weeks. Caution is advised when combining with other CNS depressants, and the activating effects may not be suitable for excitable or overactive patients. The safety of this medication during pregnancy and lactation has not been established.
