Indications:
Sitagil is indicated for:
-
Improving glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
-
As monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents including metformin and insulin
Pharmacology:
Sitagliptin inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), resulting in prolonged activity of incretin hormones. This increases insulin release and decreases glucagon levels, thus lowering blood glucose.
Dosage & Administration:

Adults: 50 mg once daily, with or without food

Dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment
Interaction:

May interact with insulin and sulfonylureas, increasing risk of hypoglycemia

Monitor blood sugar regularly during combined therapy
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Sitagliptin or components

Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (not indicated)
Side Effects:

Common: Nasopharyngitis, headache, upper respiratory tract infection

Rare: Pancreatitis, hypersensitivity reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Use only if clearly needed under medical supervision

Safety in pregnancy and lactation not well established

Monitor renal function periodically

Watch for signs of pancreatitis
