Description
Roxyzin 10 mg/5 ml Syrup, manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., is an antihistamine medication containing Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride as its active ingredient. It is primarily used to alleviate symptoms associated with anxiety and tension, including those related to psychoneurosis and other organic disease states. Additionally, Roxyzin is effective in managing pruritus caused by allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria, atopic and contact dermatoses, and histamine-mediated pruritus. The syrup also serves as a sedative when used as premedication and following general anesthesia. Hydroxyzine, the active component, is a sedating antihistamine of the piperazine class, acting as an H1 receptor antagonist. It exhibits antimuscarinic properties and significant sedative effects, along with skeletal muscle relaxation, bronchodilation, antiemetic, and analgesic properties. Roxyzin is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with clinical effects typically noted within 15 to 30 minutes after oral administration. The effectiveness of Roxyzin as an antianxiety agent for long-term use (over 4 months) has not been assessed by systematic clinical studies, and its use should be periodically reassessed by a healthcare provider.
