Indications:
FEBUSTAT is indicated for:
Management of hyperuricemia in gout patients
Prevention of gout attacks
Patients intolerant or unresponsive to allopurinol
Pharmacology:
Febuxostat selectively inhibits xanthine oxidase, an enzyme involved in uric acid production, thereby lowering serum and urinary uric acid levels.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Typically 40 mg once daily, may increase to 80 mg based on serum uric acid levels.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with azathioprine, mercaptopurine, theophylline.
Caution when used with drugs metabolized by liver enzymes.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Febuxostat
Severe liver disease
Concurrent use with azathioprine or mercaptopurine
Side Effects:
Nausea, rash, liver function abnormalities
Rare: cardiovascular events, hypersensitivity reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function tests and serum uric acid levels regularly
Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular disease
Discontinue if severe rash or hypersensitivity occurs
