Description
Zolium XR 1 mg Tablet, manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., contains Alprazolam, a medication belonging to the benzodiazepine class. It is primarily prescribed for the management of anxiety disorders, panic attacks (with or without agoraphobia), and anxiety associated with depression. Alprazolam functions by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that exerts a calming effect on the brain. The extended-release formulation allows for once-daily dosing, providing sustained therapeutic effects. The typical starting dose is 0.25 to 0.5 mg, taken two to three times daily, with potential adjustments based on individual response and tolerability. The maximum recommended daily dose is 4 mg, although some patients with panic disorder may require up to 10 mg per day under close medical supervision. Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and, less frequently, confusion or depression. Due to the risk of dependence and withdrawal symptoms, Zolium XR should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional, with gradual dose reduction recommended when discontinuing therapy. It is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation and should be used with caution in individuals with liver or kidney impairment, as well as in the elderly. Patients are advised to avoid alcohol and other central nervous system depressants while taking this medication. Zolium XR tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. Proper storage involves keeping the medication below 30°C, away from light and moisture, and out of reach of children.
