Indications:
Carvista is indicated for management of hypertension, congestive heart failure, left ventricular dysfunction following myocardial infarction, and to reduce cardiovascular mortality.
Pharmacology:
Carvista contains Carvedilol, a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker with additional alpha-1 blocking activity. It decreases heart rate, myocardial contractility, and peripheral vascular resistance.
Dosage & Administration:
Initial dose: 6.25 mg twice daily, may be increased gradually based on patient tolerance.
Can be taken with or without food.
Do not abruptly discontinue; taper dose gradually.
Interaction:
May interact with other antihypertensive agents, calcium channel blockers, insulin, and antiarrhythmics. Monitor for hypotension and bradycardia.
Contraindications:
Severe bradycardia
Asthma or bronchospastic conditions
Cardiogenic shock
Hypersensitivity to Carvedilol
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, fatigue, hypotension, weight gain, and gastrointestinal upset.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed; weigh risks and benefits. Crosses placenta and excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor heart rate and blood pressure regularly.
Use cautiously in patients with diabetes, respiratory diseases, or hepatic impairment.
