🔸 Indications:
Osartil 25 mg is indicated for:
-
Hypertension (high blood pressure) management
-
Prevention of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy
-
Protection against diabetic nephropathy progression
-
Treatment of heart failure in patients intolerant to ACE inhibitors
🔸 Pharmacology:
Osartil contains Losartan Potassium, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to AT1 receptors, causing vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and lowered blood pressure.
🔸 Dosage:

Typical starting dose: 25 mg once daily

May be increased based on response to 50 mg or 100 mg daily
-
Dose adjustments needed for patients with hepatic or renal impairment
🔸 Administration:
Take orally with or without food, at the same time each day for consistent blood levels.
🔸 Interaction:

Use caution with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics (risk of hyperkalemia)

NSAIDs may reduce antihypertensive effect
-
May interact with other antihypertensive drugs and lithium
🔸 Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Losartan or any component of the formulation

Pregnancy (especially second and third trimester)

Severe hepatic impairment
