Trego 2% Ointment is a topical antibiotic manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., containing Mupirocin 2% w/w as the active ingredient. Mupirocin is a naturally occurring antibiotic produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through reversible and specific binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, leading to bactericidal effects against a wide range of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant strains) and Streptococcus pyogenes. Trego 2% Ointment is indicated for the topical treatment of impetigo, folliculitis, and furunculosis. It is also effective in treating skin infections caused by small cuts, lacerations, wounds, or scraped skin. The recommended dosage is to apply a small amount of the ointment to the affected area 3 times daily for up to 10 days. Safety and effectiveness have been established in individuals aged 2 months to 16 years. Common side effects may include burning, stinging, itching, pain, rash, erythema, dry skin, tenderness, swelling, contact dermatitis, and increased exudate. Trego 2% Ointment is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to Mupirocin or any of the components of the preparation. It should not be used for ophthalmic or intra-nasal applications. Caution should be exercised when using this ointment in patients with renal impairment. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare provider before use. The ointment should be stored below 25°C, protected from light and moisture, and kept out of the reach of children
