Indications:
QUIET is indicated for:
Schizophrenia in adults and adolescents
Bipolar disorder (mania and depression phases)
Adjunctive therapy in major depressive disorder (MDD)
Pharmacology:
Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic that acts on serotonin (5-HT2) and dopamine (D2) receptors. It helps in reducing hallucinations, improving mood, and stabilizing behavior. It also has affinity for histamine and adrenergic receptors, contributing to its sedative effects.
Dosage & Administration:
Schizophrenia/Bipolar: Initial dose usually 25 mg twice daily; gradually titrated up as needed.
Dosage varies based on condition and patient response.
Take with or without food; usually administered at night due to sedation.
Interaction:
Use caution with CNS depressants (benzodiazepines, alcohol)
May interact with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole)
Avoid QT-prolonging agents
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Quetiapine
Severe hepatic impairment (adjustment needed)
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, weight gain
Others: Constipation, orthostatic hypotension, increased cholesterol
Rare: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, extrapyramidal symptoms
Pregnancy & Lactation:
