Indications:
RECONIL 200 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of various fungal infections including oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis, cryptococcal meningitis, systemic candidiasis, and other susceptible fungal infections.
Pharmacology:
Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme 14α-demethylase, impairing ergosterol synthesis which is essential for fungal cell membrane integrity.
Dosage:
For oropharyngeal candidiasis: 200 mg on the first day followed by 100 mg once daily for 2 weeks.
For cryptococcal meningitis: 400 mg daily for several weeks as per physician’s guidance.
Dosage varies based on infection type and severity.
Administration:
Taken orally with or without food. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs such as warfarin, phenytoin, cyclosporine, and rifampicin. Monitor for potential drug interactions closely.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or other azole antifungals.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash.
Serious: Hepatotoxicity, QT prolongation, severe allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and under strict medical supervision. Fluconazole is excreted in breast milk; caution advised.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function tests periodically. Use cautiously in patients with liver or kidney impairment. Watch for signs of hypersensitivity or QT prolongation.
