Nobesit 500 mg is indicated for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (non-insulin-dependent)
Monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetics or insulin
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) – off-label use
Prevention of type 2 diabetes in high-risk individuals (off-label)
Metformin is a biguanide antidiabetic agent. It works by:
Decreasing hepatic glucose production
Increasing insulin sensitivity
Enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization
Reducing intestinal absorption of glucose
It does not stimulate insulin secretion, thus minimizing the risk of hypoglycemia.
As prescribed by a registered physician.
Typical starting dose: 500 mg once or twice daily with meals.
Maximum recommended daily dose: 2000–2500 mg (divided).
Take with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
May increase risk of lactic acidosis with alcohol
May interact with iodine contrast agents, diuretics, corticosteroids, and beta-blockers
Caution when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas (risk of hypoglycemia)
Severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 ml/min)
Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis
History of lactic acidosis
Hypersensitivity to Metformin
Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite
Rare: Lactic acidosis (serious but rare), metallic taste, B12 deficiency with long-term use
Generally considered safe during pregnancy under medical supervision. Present in breast milk but generally safe during breastfeeding.
Monitor kidney function regularly
Use caution in elderly patients and those with heart failure
Stop temporarily before iodinated contrast imaging
Avoid excessive alcohol consumption
Biguanide-type oral hypoglycemic agents
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
