Description
Wataris 40 mg Tablet is an antihypertensive medication manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., containing 40 mg of telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor, preventing the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, thereby reducing blood pressure and decreasing the risk of stroke and myocardial infarction. It is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and for cardiovascular risk reduction in patients unable to take ACE inhibitors. The usual starting dose is 40 mg once daily, which may be increased to 80 mg or 160 mg depending on the patient's response and tolerance. Telmisartan can be taken with or without food and should be administered at the same time each day. Common side effects include dizziness, fatigue, and upper respiratory tract infections. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to telmisartan or any of its components, during pregnancy, and in patients with severe hepatic impairment. Caution is advised when co-administering with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes containing potassium due to the risk of hyperkalemia. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and renal function is recommended during treatment.
