Cortan 20 mg is indicated for the treatment of:
Allergic conditions (asthma, allergic rhinitis, drug reactions)
Autoimmune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis)
Inflammatory conditions (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease)
Endocrine disorders (adrenal insufficiency)
Skin disorders (eczema, psoriasis)
Certain cancers (as part of combination therapy)
Cortan contains Prednisolone, a synthetic glucocorticoid. It works by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and suppressing the immune response, thus reducing swelling, redness, and allergic reactions.
Dosage varies based on the condition being treated
Typical adult dose: 5–60 mg per day, or as prescribed by physician
Must be tapered gradually when discontinuing long-term therapy
Take orally with food or milk to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. Swallow whole with water.
May interact with NSAIDs (increased GI bleeding risk)
Can reduce effectiveness of vaccines
May increase blood sugar with antidiabetic drugs
Interaction with anticoagulants, rifampin, phenytoin, and estrogens
Systemic fungal infections
Known hypersensitivity to prednisolone or other corticosteroids
Administration of live vaccines while on immunosuppressive doses
Short term: Increased appetite, insomnia, mood changes
Long term: Osteoporosis, peptic ulcer, hypertension, weight gain, adrenal suppression
Risk of infection due to immune suppression
Seek medical attention for vision changes, mood disturbance, or signs of infection.
Use only if clearly needed and under medical supervision. Prednisolone crosses the placenta and appears in breast milk in small amounts.
Long-term use requires monitoring of blood pressure, blood glucose, bone density, and eye pressure
Use caution in patients with diabetes, peptic ulcers, or infections
Do not stop abruptly after long-term use; tapering required
