Description
Nomopil 1 mg is an oral antidiabetic medication containing repaglinide, developed by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) in adults, particularly when blood glucose levels cannot be controlled through diet and exercise alone. Repaglinide belongs to the meglitinide class of drugs and works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin in response to meals. It binds to specific receptors on pancreatic β-cells, leading to the closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels, membrane depolarization, and subsequent calcium influx, which triggers insulin secretion. Nomopil 1 mg is typically taken just before or up to 30 minutes before each meal. The starting dose is usually 1 or 2 mg before each meal, with the possibility of increasing the dose based on individual response, up to a maximum of 4 mg before each meal, not exceeding 16 mg per day. Common side effects may include hypoglycemia, upper respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and vomiting. It is contraindicated in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, type 1 diabetes mellitus, or known hypersensitivity to repaglinide or any of its components. Patients should follow their healthcare provider's instructions regarding dosage and administration.
