Roxyzin 10 mg Tablet is an antihistamine medication manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd., containing Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride as its active ingredient. It is primarily used for the symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension associated with psychoneurosis and as an adjunct in organic disease states where anxiety is manifested. Additionally, Roxyzin is effective in managing pruritus due to allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria and atopic and contact dermatoses, as well as histamine-mediated pruritus. It also serves as a sedative when used as premedication and following general anesthesia. Hydroxyzine, the active component, is a sedating antihistamine of the piperazine class, acting as an H1 receptor antagonist. It exhibits antimuscarinic properties and significant sedative effects, along with skeletal muscle relaxation, bronchodilation, antiemetic, and analgesic properties. Roxyzin is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with clinical effects typically noted within 15 to 30 minutes after oral administration. The effectiveness of Roxyzin as an antianxiety agent for long-term use (over 4 months) has not been assessed by systematic clinical studies, and its use should be periodically reassessed by a healthcare provider.
