MONTAIR 4 ODT 4MG is an orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) containing 4 milligrams of montelukast sodium. 1 Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used in children (typically aged 2-5 years) for the prevention and chronic treatment of asthma, the relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis (both seasonal and perennial), and the acute prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. 2 The orally disintegrating formulation is designed to dissolve quickly on the tongue, making it easier for young children to take without needing to swallow a whole tablet. It works by blocking the action of leukotrienes, substances in the body that cause inflammation and narrowing of the airways, 3 thus improving breathing and reducing allergy symptoms. 4 It is usually taken once daily in the evening for asthma and allergic rhinitis, or at least two hours before exercise for exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.
