CARDOBIS 5 MG Tablet is indicated for:
Management of hypertension (high blood pressure).
Treatment of angina pectoris (chest pain).
Management of chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.
Pharmacology:
Bisoprolol fumarate is a selective beta1-adrenergic receptor blocker. It decreases heart rate and myocardial contractility, reducing cardiac workload and oxygen demand, thereby lowering blood pressure and improving heart function.
Dosage and Administration:
Hypertension: Start with 5 mg once daily. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 10 mg and then to a maximum of 20 mg once daily.
Angina: Typically, 10 mg once daily; some patients may respond to 5 mg.
Heart Failure: Initiate with 1.25 mg once daily, gradually increasing to a maximum of 10 mg once daily, based on patient tolerance.
Administer orally, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
Should not be combined with other beta-blockers.
Use cautiously with calcium channel blockers, antiarrhythmic agents, and insulin or oral hypoglycemics, as bisoprolol may mask hypoglycemia symptoms.
Contraindications:
Cardiogenic shock.
Overt heart failure.
Second or third-degree atrioventricular block.
Severe bradycardia.
Hypersensitivity to bisoprolol or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common: Dizziness, fatigue, headache, bradycardia, hypotension, gastrointestinal disturbances.
Rare: Sleep disturbances, visual disturbances, alopecia, thrombocytopenia.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
The safety of bisoprolol during pregnancy has not been established. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Caution should be exercised when administered to nursing women, as bisoprolol is excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic function during long-term treatment.
Use with caution in patients with asthma, diabetes, or peripheral vascular disease.
Do not discontinue abruptly; taper the dose gradually under medical supervision.
Therapeutic Class:
Selective beta1-adrenergic receptor blockers (beta-blockers).
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
