Indications:
Indicated for the treatment of head lice (Pediculosis capitis) and scabies (Sarcoptes scabiei) infestations in adults and children.
Pharmacology:
Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid that acts on the nerve cell membrane of parasites, disrupting sodium channels and causing paralysis and death of lice and mites.
Dosage:
For lice: Apply to damp hair, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
For scabies: Apply to the entire body from neck to toes and leave for 8–12 hours before washing off. A second application may be necessary after 7 days.
Administration:
Topical use only. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and mucous membranes. Wash hands after application.
Interaction:
No significant drug interactions have been reported with topical permethrin. However, concurrent use with corticosteroids may reduce efficacy.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to permethrin, other pyrethroids, or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Mild burning, stinging, itching, redness, or tingling sensation at the application site. Rare allergic skin reactions may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Considered safe during pregnancy and lactation when used as directed. However, always consult a physician before use.
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid use on broken or inflamed skin. Do not use in infants under 2 months of age without medical supervision. Prevent reinfestation by treating household items and close contacts.
