  • Acute cough of any etiology, including whooping cough and cough due to acute lower respiratory tract infections such as tracheitis, laryngitis, and bronchitis.

Pharmacology:
Butamirate Citrate is a centrally acting non-opioid antitussive that suppresses the cough reflex by acting directly on the cough center in the medulla oblongata. It is not chemically or pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids and does not produce respiratory depression or dependence.

  • Adults: 15 ml 4 times daily.

  • Adolescents (12 years and above): 15 ml 3 times daily.

  • Children (6–12 years): 10 ml 3 times daily.

  • Children (3–6 years): 5 ml 3 times daily.

Administration:
Administer orally using the provided measuring device. Shake the bottle well before use.

Interaction:
Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided, as it may lead to mucus retention in the airways, increasing the risk of bronchospasm and respiratory infections.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Butamirate Citrate or any component of the formulation.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Generally well-tolerated.

  • Rare: Rash, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness. These effects are usually mild and resolve upon dose reduction or discontinuation.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Butamirate Citrate should not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy. During the remainder of pregnancy, it can be used if indicated by a physician but with caution. As a general rule, in the absence of data on elimination of the active substance in breast milk, the benefits of administration during breastfeeding should be carefully weighed against the risks.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Avoid use with expectorants.

  • If the cough persists for more than 7 days (or more than 3 days in children under 12 years), consult a physician.

Therapeutic Class:
Cough suppressant (non-opioid antitussive).
