Skin infections: folliculitis, furuncles, cellulitis, carbuncles, pyoderma, impetigo, infected dermatitis

Pharmacology:
Roxithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing transpeptidation and translocation reactions. It is effective against Gram-positive bacteria like Staphylococcus and Streptococcus, as well as Gram-negative bacteria such as Haemophilus influenzae and atypical pathogens like Mycoplasma and Chlamydia.
Dosage:
Adults: 300 mg once daily or 150 mg twice daily for 5–10 days.

24–40 kg: 100 mg every 12 hours
Administration:
Administer orally on an empty stomach, preferably 15 minutes before meals. Shake the suspension well before use.
Interaction:
Roxithromycin has minimal interaction with cytochrome P-450 enzymes, reducing the likelihood of drug interactions. Mild interactions may occur with theophylline, but these are not clinically significant. No notable interactions with carbamazepine or warfarin have been observed.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Roxithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics
Concurrent use with ergotamine or its derivatives, due to the risk of arterial spasm and severe ischemia
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and skin rash. Less frequently, patients may experience vomiting, dizziness, headache, pruritus, dyspepsia, flatulence, tinnitus, vertigo, and constipation. These side effects are generally mild and transient.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
The safety of Roxithromycin during pregnancy has not been established. It is excreted in small amounts in breast milk but is not known to cause adverse effects in nursing infants. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be based on a physician's recommendation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment; dosage adjustment may be necessary.
Monitor liver function during prolonged therapy.
Avoid use in patients with a history of arrhythmias.
Therapeutic Class:
