Indications:
ZITHROX 500MG is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia, bronchitis), skin and soft tissue infections, ear infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Pharmacology:
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, inhibiting protein synthesis and bacterial growth. It has a broad spectrum against Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage:
Adults: Usually 500 mg once daily for 3 days or as prescribed by a physician.
Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.
Administration:
Orally with or without food. Swallow tablet whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids, warfarin, and drugs prolonging QT interval. Use caution accordingly.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, or other macrolide antibiotics.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, and rare allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Considered safe if prescribed by a doctor; use only when necessary.
