Indications:
Used for treating hypertension (high blood pressure), reducing the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, and for diabetic nephropathy protection.
Pharmacology:
Losartan blocks angiotensin II receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure by preventing the effects of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor.
Dosage:
Typical adult dose is 25-50 mg once daily; may be increased up to 100 mg based on response and clinical condition.
Administration:
Oral use, with or without food. Tablets should be swallowed whole.
Interaction:
May interact with potassium supplements, diuretics, NSAIDs, lithium, and other antihypertensive drugs.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Losartan
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Bilateral renal artery stenosis
Side Effects:
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, nasal congestion, and increased potassium levels.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy due to risk of fetal toxicity. Use caution during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal function and potassium levels regularly.
Use cautiously in patients with impaired kidney or liver function.
Avoid sudden discontinuation.
