Indications:
Caridol 250 MG Tablet is indicated for the management of:
Glaucoma (open-angle and secondary glaucoma)
Edema associated with congestive heart failure or drug-induced
Prevention and reduction of symptoms of altitude sickness
Certain cases of epilepsy as adjunctive therapy
Pharmacology:
Acetazolamide inhibits carbonic anhydrase, reducing bicarbonate formation and decreasing aqueous humor production in the eye. This action reduces intraocular pressure in glaucoma and enhances diuresis in edema.
Dosage and Administration:
Glaucoma: 250 mg 1-4 times daily as directed by a physician.
Altitude Sickness: 250 mg twice daily starting 1-2 days before ascent and continuing during the high-altitude stay.
Edema: 250-375 mg once daily or as prescribed.
Interaction:
May enhance the effect of other diuretics.
Can interact with digoxin and salicylates, increasing toxicity risk.
Avoid co-administration with high-dose aspirin due to potential metabolic acidosis.
Contraindications:
Severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Hypersensitivity to Acetazolamide or sulfonamides.
Addison's disease or severe electrolyte imbalance.
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, paresthesia.
Rare: Metabolic acidosis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, aplastic anemia.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
Use during breastfeeding is not recommended as Acetazolamide may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor serum electrolytes, kidney function, and acid-base balance regularly.
Use with caution in patients with diabetes or respiratory acidosis.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation without medical advice.
