PRED 20MG contains Prednisone, a synthetic corticosteroid that mimics the effects of cortisol, a natural hormone. It reduces inflammation by suppressing leukocyte migration and decreasing immune system activity, offering relief from swelling, redness, and allergic reactions.
Dosage:
Dosage varies depending on the condition being treated. Adults generally start with 5–60 mg per day in divided doses. Dosage should be determined and adjusted by a physician.
Administration:
Should be taken orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Take exactly as prescribed and do not stop abruptly without medical guidance.
Interaction:
May interact with NSAIDs, anticoagulants, antidiabetic drugs, vaccines, and certain antibiotics. Requires monitoring in patients taking multiple medications.
Contraindications:
Systemic fungal infections
Hypersensitivity to prednisone or any of its components
Caution in patients with active peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, or uncontrolled diabetes
Side Effects:
Common side effects include weight gain, increased appetite, mood changes, insomnia, and elevated blood sugar. Long-term use may lead to adrenal suppression, osteoporosis, and increased infection risk.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Prednisone may pass into breast milk, so lactating mothers should consult a physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, or psychiatric disorders. Do not discontinue abruptly. Long-term use requires regular medical monitoring.
Therapeutic Class:
Glucocorticoids / Corticosteroids
