Long Description:
Indications:
ROXIM 400MG is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms, such as upper and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, and gonorrhea.
Pharmacology:
ROXIM 400MG contains Cefixime, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage:
Adults and children over 12 years: 400 mg once daily or 200 mg every 12 hours. Duration of therapy depends on the severity and type of infection.
Administration:
Should be taken orally, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with carbamazepine, anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), and may show a false-positive result in glucose tests using Benedict’s or Fehling’s solution.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, and rash. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions and pseudomembranous colitis may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution should be exercised while administering to lactating mothers as it may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis. Adjust dose in severe renal impairment.
