Indications:
Mig 2.5mg Tablet is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults.

Pharmacology:
Zolmitriptan is a selective serotonin (5-HT1B/1D) receptor agonist. It works by causing vasoconstriction of dilated cranial blood vessels and inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory neuropeptides, thereby alleviating migraine symptoms.

Dosage:

  • Adults: The recommended initial dose is 2.5 mg. If the migraine persists or returns, a second dose may be taken after at least 2 hours. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 10 mg.

Administration:
Administer orally with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water.

Interaction:

  • Concurrent use with ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medications (e.g., dihydroergotamine, methysergide) is contraindicated.

  • Caution is advised when used with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) due to the risk of serotonin syndrome.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Zolmitriptan or any component of the formulation.

  • Ischemic heart disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or cerebrovascular syndromes.

  • Use within 24 hours of another 5-HT1 agonist or ergotamine-containing medication.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Dizziness, somnolence, asthenia, nausea.

  • Uncommon: Palpitations, dry mouth, chest discomfort.

  • Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Zolmitriptan should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is excreted in breast milk; caution is advised when administering to nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Not intended for prophylactic therapy of migraine or for the treatment of cluster headaches.

  • Evaluate patients for cardiovascular risk factors before initiating therapy.

  • Monitor for signs of serotonin syndrome, especially when used concomitantly with SSRIs or SNRIs.

Therapeutic Class:
Selective serotonin (5-HT1B/1D) receptor agonists (Triptans).

Storage Conditions:
Store at room temperature, below 30°C, in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
