Indications:
Treatment of hypertension, reduction of stroke risk in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, and prevention of diabetic nephropathy progression.
Pharmacology:
Losartan selectively blocks angiotensin II type 1 receptors, causing vasodilation and lowering blood pressure by inhibiting angiotensin II action.
Dosage:
Usually started at 25 mg once daily, but a 5 mg dose may be prescribed for specific patients or dose adjustment.
Administration:
Oral administration, with or without food; tablets should be swallowed whole.
Interaction:
Potential interactions with potassium supplements, diuretics, NSAIDs, lithium, and other blood pressure medicines.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Losartan
Pregnancy and lactation
Bilateral renal artery stenosis
Side Effects:
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, increased potassium, and occasional cough.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated in pregnancy; use with caution during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor kidney function and electrolytes; avoid abrupt withdrawal; caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment.
