Indications:
Used for prevention and chronic treatment of asthma. Also effective for relieving symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion.
Pharmacology:
Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks substances causing airway inflammation and bronchoconstriction in asthma and allergies.
Dosage:
Typically 10mg once daily for adults, preferably in the evening.
Administration:
Oral tablet taken with or without food, usually once daily.
Interaction:
May interact with phenobarbital and other enzyme-inducing drugs that reduce Montelukast levels.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any tablet ingredient.
Side Effects:
Headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, cough, sore throat, rare mood changes.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed; limited data available. Consult doctor before use.
Precautions & Warnings:
Not for acute asthma attacks. Monitor mood or behavior changes. Inform doctor if liver problems exist.
