Indications:
PG 50MG is indicated for the treatment of neuropathic pain due to diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, as adjunctive therapy for partial seizures, and for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Pharmacology:
Pregabalin binds to the α2-δ subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in CNS tissues. This reduces calcium influx, thereby decreasing the release of neurotransmitters like glutamate, noradrenaline, and substance P—leading to reduced neuronal excitability and pain transmission.
Dosage:
The initial dose is typically 50 mg two to three times daily depending on the condition. The dosage may be adjusted based on therapeutic response and tolerability.
Administration:
Take orally, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water.
Interaction:
Concurrent use with CNS depressants (e.g., opioids, benzodiazepines, alcohol) may increase sedation. Caution is advised with medications that affect renal function.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Pregabalin or any excipients in the formulation.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, weight gain, dry mouth, peripheral edema, and coordination difficulties.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Exercise caution during breastfeeding as Pregabalin may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effects are known. Dose adjustments are required in patients with renal impairment. Do not stop medication abruptly.
Therapeutic Class:
Neuropathic pain medications, antiepileptic drugs.
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Keep away from sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
