Indications:
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Angina pectoris (chest pain)
Coronary artery disease
Vasospastic angina
Pharmacology:
Nifedipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, inhibits calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced myocardial oxygen demand.
Dosage:
Usually 10-20 mg orally three times daily or as prescribed.
Dose adjustment may be needed based on clinical response.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food, swallow tablets whole.
Interaction:
May interact with beta-blockers, digoxin, cyclosporine, and other antihypertensives.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to nifedipine or other calcium channel blockers
Severe hypotension
Cardiogenic shock
Significant aortic stenosis
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, flushing, dizziness, edema
Serious: Hypotension, palpitations, liver dysfunction
Pregnancy & Lactation:
