Indications:
Cardon 25 MG Tablet is indicated for the management of:
Hypertension
Edema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or nephrotic syndrome
Primary hyperaldosteronism
Pharmacology:
Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic that antagonizes aldosterone in the distal renal tubules. This results in increased sodium and water excretion while retaining potassium, reducing blood pressure and edema.
Dosage and Administration:
Hypertension: 25-50 mg daily in single or divided doses, as prescribed.
Edema: Start with 25-100 mg daily, adjusted according to response.
Take after meals for better absorption.
Interaction:
Concurrent use with ACE inhibitors or potassium supplements may increase the risk of hyperkalemia.
May interact with NSAIDs, reducing diuretic efficacy.
Avoid combining with digoxin due to potential toxicity.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Spironolactone.
Hyperkalemia or severe renal impairment.
Addison’s disease.
Side Effects:
Common: Dizziness, headache, nausea, gynecomastia.
Rare: Hyperkalemia, menstrual irregularities, and electrolyte imbalance.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Not recommended during breastfeeding as Spironolactone may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor serum potassium and renal function regularly.
Use with caution in elderly patients or those with hepatic dysfunction.
Avoid excessive dietary potassium intake.
