FLUCLOXIN 500MG Capsule is indicated for:
Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Including boils, abscesses, cellulitis, and impetigo.
Bone and Joint Infections: Such as osteomyelitis and septic arthritis.
Respiratory Tract Infections: Pneumonia, bronchitis, and lung abscess.
Endocarditis: Gram-positive bacterial infections affecting the heart lining.
Flucloxacillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic in the penicillin class. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, particularly effective against beta-lactamase-producing gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus.
Dosage:
Adults: 500mg 4 times daily.
Children: 25-50mg/kg body weight daily, divided into 4 doses.
Administration: Take orally on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before or 2 hours after meals.
Reduced Effectiveness: With bacteriostatic antibiotics like tetracyclines or erythromycin.
Potential Interaction: With oral contraceptives, reducing their effectiveness.
Hypersensitivity to penicillins or beta-lactam antibiotics.
Severe hepatic dysfunction or jaundice associated with flucloxacillin use.
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, and skin rashes.
Rare: Cholestatic jaundice, liver dysfunction, or anaphylaxis.
Pregnancy: Generally safe; recommended under physician supervision.
Lactation: Safe with minimal excretion in breast milk.
Monitor liver function during prolonged use or in patients with pre-existing liver conditions.
Discontinue immediately if signs of hypersensitivity or severe side effects occur.
Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment.
