Indications:
RIVAROX 2.5 MG is indicated to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction (heart attack), stroke, and death in patients with chronic coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD). It is often used in combination with low-dose aspirin.
Pharmacology:
Rivaroxaban is an oral, direct Factor Xa inhibitor that selectively blocks the active site of Factor Xa, thereby reducing thrombin generation and thrombus development.
Dosage:
Recommended dose: 2.5 mg twice daily
Often prescribed in combination with 75–100 mg aspirin once daily
Dosage should be as per physician’s instruction
Administration:
Take orally with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew unless instructed.
Interaction:
May interact with other anticoagulants, NSAIDs, antiplatelet agents, CYP3A4 and P-gp inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir), and certain antidepressants. Avoid excessive alcohol.
Contraindications:
Active pathological bleeding
Severe hepatic disease
Hypersensitivity to Rivaroxaban
Pregnancy and lactation (unless clearly indicated by physician)
Side Effects:
May include bleeding, anemia, dizziness, gastrointestinal discomfort, and in rare cases, intracranial hemorrhage.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should only be used if clearly needed and under strict medical supervision during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of renal function is recommended. Use with caution in elderly patients or those with a history of bleeding disorders. Do not discontinue abruptly without medical advice.
