Indications:
Dumax 30mg Tablet is indicated for:
Treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD)
Management of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
Relief of neuropathic pain, especially in diabetic peripheral neuropathy
Treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain
Pharmacology:
Duloxetine, the active ingredient, is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It increases the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, improving mood, reducing anxiety, and alleviating pain signals in the central nervous system.
Dosage and Administration:
Dosage:
Depression: 30-60 mg once daily
Neuropathic pain: Initial dose of 30 mg, titrated up as needed
Administration:
Take orally, with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.
Interaction:
Avoid combining with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) due to the risk of serotonin syndrome.
Increased sedation with alcohol or central nervous system depressants.
May interact with anticoagulants, increasing the risk of bleeding.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Duloxetine
Concurrent use of MAOIs or severe uncontrolled hypertension
Severe hepatic or renal impairment
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, and insomnia
Rare: Increased blood pressure, liver enzyme abnormalities, or serotonin syndrome
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Use only if clearly necessary, as effects on the fetus are not well established.
Lactation: Duloxetine may pass into breast milk; consult a doctor before use.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal ideation, especially in younger patients.
Caution in patients with a history of seizures, glaucoma, or bipolar disorder.
Gradually taper the dose when discontinuing to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
