Indications:
Short-term treatment of insomnia characterized by difficulty falling asleep or frequent awakenings
Management of sleep disturbances caused by stress or other conditions
Pharmacology:
Temazepam is a benzodiazepine that acts on the central nervous system by enhancing the effect of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, promoting sedation and sleep.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 7.5 to 30 mg at bedtime, usually 20 mg once daily
Dose adjusted according to severity and patient response
Should be taken just before sleep
Use for short periods (typically 7-10 days) to avoid dependence
Interaction:
Increased sedation with alcohol, opioids, and CNS depressants
May interact with other benzodiazepines and certain antidepressants
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to temazepam or benzodiazepines
Severe respiratory insufficiency
Myasthenia gravis
Sleep apnea syndrome
Side Effects:
Drowsiness, dizziness, headache
Fatigue, muscle weakness
Possible dependence and withdrawal symptoms on prolonged use
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless clearly necessary and prescribed by a doctor.
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid driving or operating machinery while taking this medicine
Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration
Caution in elderly and patients with liver or kidney impairment
