Indications:
Mig 5mg Tablet is indicated for:
Prophylaxis of migraine headaches.
Management of vertigo associated with vestibular disorders.
Pharmacology:
Flunarizine is a selective calcium channel blocker that inhibits excessive calcium influx into cells, preventing cellular calcium overload. It also possesses antihistaminic and sedative properties, contributing to its efficacy in migraine and vertigo management.
Dosage:
Adults: 5 mg once daily at bedtime.
Children (above 40 kg): 5 mg once daily at bedtime.
Administration:
Administer orally with or without food, preferably at the same time each day, usually at bedtime to minimize drowsiness.
Interaction:
Co-administration with hepatic enzyme inducers like carbamazepine and phenytoin may decrease Flunarizine plasma levels, potentially reducing its efficacy.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Flunarizine or any component of the formulation.
History of depressive illness.
Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal disorders.
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, weight gain, increased appetite.
Uncommon: Depression, extrapyramidal symptoms, gastrointestinal discomfort.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
The safety of Flunarizine during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. It should be used only if the potential benefits justify the potential risks to the fetus or infant.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of depression.
Monitor for signs of extrapyramidal symptoms, especially in elderly patients.
Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment.
