Indications:
Sympres 0.2 is indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) including difficulty in urination, weak stream, and frequent or urgent need to urinate.
Pharmacology:
Tamsulosin is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. It targets alpha-1A receptors, which are abundant in the prostate.
Dosage & Administration:
The recommended dose is 0.2 mg once daily, preferably 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Capsules should be swallowed whole, not crushed or chewed.
Interaction:
Tamsulosin may interact with other alpha-blockers, PDE5 inhibitors, strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole), and warfarin. Caution is needed when co-administered.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin or any of its components. Also contraindicated in patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, abnormal ejaculation, headache, asthenia, and rhinitis. Rarely, it may cause hypotension or allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not indicated for use in women. Safety in pregnancy and lactation has not been established.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution is advised in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. May cause dizziness or fainting, especially when starting treatment or standing up quickly.
