Indications:
Surliv 300mg is indicated for liver support in chronic liver diseases such as hepatitis B/C, alcoholic liver disease, liver cirrhosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and drug-induced hepatotoxicity.
Pharmacology:
Silymarin is a complex of flavonolignans derived from milk thistle (Silybum marianum). It acts as an antioxidant and hepatoprotective agent by scavenging free radicals, enhancing liver regeneration, and stabilizing hepatocyte membranes. It also inhibits the binding of toxins to liver cell receptors.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual adult dose is 300 mg once or twice daily with meals, depending on disease severity. Duration should be determined by a physician based on patient condition.
Interaction:
Minimal interaction risk, but caution with medications metabolized by the liver (e.g., warfarin, phenytoin, diazepam). May reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives due to liver enzyme modulation.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to milk thistle or Silymarin components.
Side Effects:
Generally well tolerated. Occasionally causes nausea, mild diarrhea, bloating, allergic skin reactions, or headache.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Limited data on safety; use only if clearly needed and under the supervision of a qualified healthcare provider.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with estrogen-sensitive conditions, such as breast or uterine cancer. Monitor liver enzymes during long-term therapy.
Therapeutic Class:
Hepatoprotective Herbal Medicine
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
