GTN 400 MCG Spray is indicated for:
Angina Pectoris: Rapid relief and prevention of chest pain associated with angina.
Heart Attack Risk Reduction: As part of a broader treatment plan under medical supervision.
Glyceryl trinitrate, a nitrate compound, works by converting to nitric oxide in the body, which relaxes vascular smooth muscles. This leads to:
Dilation of coronary arteries, enhancing blood flow to the heart.
Reduction in myocardial oxygen demand by decreasing preload and afterload.
Dosage:
For acute angina: 1 or 2 sprays under the tongue at the onset of pain. Repeat after 5 minutes if necessary, up to a maximum of 3 doses within 15 minutes.
Prophylactic use: 1 or 2 sprays 5–10 minutes before exertion or exposure to trigger factors.
Administration:
Shake the container. Spray directly under the tongue while seated to avoid dizziness. Do not inhale.
Potentiates Hypotensive Effects: With alcohol, antihypertensives, or PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil).
Reduced Effectiveness: With long-term nitrate use due to tolerance.
Hypersensitivity to nitrates.
Severe hypotension or hypovolemia.
Concurrent use with PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil).
Severe anemia or intracranial hypertension.
Common: Headache, dizziness, flushing, and hypotension.
Rare: Methemoglobinemia or severe hypotensive episodes.
Pregnancy: Use only if clearly necessary and prescribed by a healthcare provider.
Lactation: Safety not established; consult a physician before use.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent rebound angina.
Use cautiously in patients with low blood pressure or hypovolemia.
Sit or lie down while using to prevent dizziness or fainting.
Nitrate (Anti-anginal).
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place.
Protect from direct sunlight and heat sources.
